3,600 undergraduates
Bucknell’s size is ideal — large enough to offer world-class resources and a range of extracurriculars but small enough that you’ll never feel lost in the crowd.
65 majors
From accounting to women’s & gender studies, more options means more amazing things to discover. (See the full list here.)
50%

Consider Bucknell
You Journey Begins Bucknell
Don’t wait until your senior year of college to conduct research in high-tech labs, take a starring role onstage or start your own business.
At Bucknell, these kinds of high-level experiences begin the moment you arrive. In fact, we’re looking for students — even those who haven’t yet selected a major — who will immerse themselves in a range of subjects they want to explore.

Whether that’s animal behavior or accounting, French or finance, music or mechanical engineering, you’ll find opportunities that other schools reserve for seniors and grad students. That’s why 92% of our first-year students come back for their second year — far above the U.S. average of 73.5%.

College is a time for exploration — not for limiting yourself to a single academic interest or extracurricular pursuit.
At Bucknell, we empower exploration by offering more majors and minors than most liberal arts universities. Beyond the classroom, most students are involved in multiple extracurricular activities. With more than 200 student clubs, 27 Division I athletics teams and frequent volunteer opportunities, you’ll encounter something amazing every day of the week.

LIVING IN THE MOMENT
When she’s not in class or studying with friends, you might find Faith Trejo ’21 cheerleading at Bison football or basketball games. Or planning events for her sorority. Or working at 7th Street Studio, one of Bucknell’s makerspaces.

“I like to be involved,” says the managing for sustainability major from Tucson, Ariz. “I’m constantly going, but that’s kind of what I need.”

The chance to maintain multiple interests — and not be forced to select one or two — is exactly why Faith picked Bucknell.

“It wasn’t just academics,” Faith says. “It was what Bucknell had to offer as a whole, as an experience.”

Getting into your ideal school doesn’t begin with an application. It begins in high school, where every experience prepares you for the road ahead.
When we review applications, we take a comprehensive look at everything that makes you unique. Yes, we want to know about your academic success, but we’re also interested in the ways you engage with your community. Are you involved in extracurricular activities? Do you volunteer or have a part-time job? Do you take care of younger siblings or grandparents? Everything counts.

Mackenzie Gross ’21 directed a first-of-its-kind staging of Twelve Angry Men inside a prison 45 minutes from Bucknell.

Each week, Mackenzie and Professor Carl Milofsky, sociology, discussed the play’s modern significance with the cast, which included a mix of Bucknell students and inmates.

“The fact that at Bucknell, an undergraduate student can co-teach a class and direct a play at a prison — and be taken seriously — is just the most incredible thing to me,” Mackenzie says.

Working abroad is Connery Mayer ’21’s dream. When he starts applying for jobs overseas, he’ll have a head start on other applicants.

Connery took part in the Freeman College of Management’s Bucknell in Dublin summer program, a monthlong experience that pairs a course in Irish literature with an internship selected to match the student’s career aspirations.

“I was fully integrated in an Irish workplace,” he says. “I learned how to think on my feet without having someone hold my hand.”

It’s simple math:
A low student-to-faculty ratio (like ours, 9-to-1) means a high degree of personalization. It means professors have more time to devote to you.

Shehryar Asif ’21
Bucknell’s internationally recognized professors don’t merely tell you what they know. They’re your partners as you uncover new truths together.

When Professor Amal Kabalan, electrical & computer engineering, learned that some refugee children in her native country of Lebanon had to do homework under streetlights, she teamed up with her students to devise a solution. They developed solar backpacks that can be charged by the sun during the day and power lights and devices at night.

Shehryar Asif ’21, an electrical engineering major from Lahore, Pakistan, joined Kabalan on a trip to Lebanon to deliver the backpacks. But Shehryar did more than explain how the backpacks work. He gave a hands-on lesson in renewable energy.

A Place Like Home title
What makes the ideal setting for four years of college?
A Gorgeous Campus

Bucknell students say our campus is a perfectly picturesque place to live, learn and make world-changing discoveries. In fact, The Princeton Review, which ranks universities based on student surveys, called Bucknell one of the country’s 10 “most beautiful campuses.”

A Perfect College Town
Like Bucknell itself, Lewisburg is neither too big nor too small. So you won’t get stuck in traffic or run out of things to do. Lewisburg’s safe, walkable downtown is just a few blocks from campus and features cafés, trendy boutiques and our three-story campus bookstore.
A Convenient Location
Central Pennsylvania is ideally located, meaning adventures await in every direction. Spend an afternoon at a nearby state park, historic battlefield or museum. Or take a weekend getaway to New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore or Washington, D.C. — each just three hours away.

For some, it was a sunset on the Quad. Sitting in an Adirondack chair, they watched the sun dip below the mountains and ignite the sky in orange and blue. For others, it was a warm welcome from a Bucknell student or professor — a feeling that they belonged. Still others pointed to the high-tech labs and learning spaces they’d get to use from their first year on.

Build Something Amazing

Academic East, Bucknell’s brand-new engineering and education building, is opening up hundreds of one-of-a-kind learning experiences for Bucknell students. For Patricia Cupay ’21, a civil engineering major from Beach Park, Ill., those experiences began months before the facility opened its doors.

As a research project, Patricia had access to the building throughout the 16 months it was under construction, tracking and explaining what was happening through the @bucknellbuilds Instagram account. Hands-on work with professors like Ronald Ziemian, civil & environmental engineering, has piqued her interest the way only a real-world experience can.

“Research has made my curiosity grow even bigger,” Patricia says. “Every time I answer a question I’m looking into, it leads me to more questions. There’s just so much to learn beyond what’s in the textbook.”

At Bucknell, sustainability goes far beyond the LEED plaques on our buildings. From our reusable to-go containers at the dining hall to rain gardens where students conduct meaningful research, we’re committed to the health of our planet. Bucknell supports these efforts through a $400,000 Green Fund that allows students to apply for and receive money for their own sustainability projects.

At Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the new themed land at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, every element is crafted with a Jedi master’s attention to detail.

Among the creative humans behind that next-level immersion: Rachel Sherbill ’09.

“Many of the theatre classes that I took, like scenic design, gave me practical, foundational skills that I use every day at work,” she says. “An economics background has also given me a great footing when working at a Fortune 500 company.”

At Bucknell, Rachel directed Schoolhouse Rock Live. Today, her production budget is considerably larger, but the underlying goal is still the same: designing memories that last.

“So many of the things we build at Walt Disney Imagineering end up being in our parks for 20-plus years and then they become cultural icons,” she says. “What a privilege it is to be part of something that brings so much magic and joy into people’s lives.”
