It’s simple math:
A low student-to-faculty ratio (like ours, 9-to-1) means a high degree of personalization. It means professors have more time to devote to you.

Bucknell’s internationally recognized professors don’t merely tell you what they know. They’re your partners as you uncover new truths together.

When Professor Amal Kabalan, electrical & computer engineering, learned that some refugee children in her native country of Lebanon had to do homework under streetlights, she teamed up with her students to devise a solution. They developed solar backpacks that can be charged by the sun during the day and power lights and devices at night.

Shehryar Asif ’21, an electrical engineering major from Lahore, Pakistan, joined Kabalan on a trip to Lebanon to deliver the backpacks. But Shehryar did more than explain how the backpacks work. He gave a hands-on lesson in renewable energy.

“Employers, of course, look for engineers who can do the engineering part, but they look also for the engineer who can communicate and work in a team,” Kabalan says. “When we talk to employers, they tell us that one of the strongest attributes of Bucknell students is that they have those skills.”

“I know how talented Bucknellians are, so it’s such an easy fit for me to try to open doors for them here at Southwest. Now, I have the opportunity to go back to campus and recruit fellow Bucknellians, help them get internships and jobs here, and make myself available to students who want to learn more about the aviation industry.”
